This was the first Elegant Simplicity album. It is made up of songs recorded between 1990 and 1992 using all kinds of instruments and devices. Recorded on 4 track cassette, it is very lo-fi and inconsistent in tone as a result. Some songs sound better than others, depending on when they were recorded and what gear I had at the time!

The only constants were my guitars/amps/mics and recording machine. I actually recorded a whopping 152 songs on that machine (a Tascam Porta One), of which around 40 were ever released. There's gold in them thar hills, for sure! Looking at the session logs, I was writing and recording a new song every 1-2 days.

This 2020 remaster was quite tricky, sonically, but it doesn't sound too bad, really, given the source material. I'm proud of the songs (yes, over-indulgent with mistakes every now and again) but that is the price of being ambitious.

My advice is to listen to it first. It does have a certain charm and you can clearly see the heights I was trying to reach. The next album, Nocturnal Implications, is more consistent as everything was recorded within the same two week period!
